The Fifteenth Amendment and Senator Obama

Back in 1870 our Constitution was amended to allow all men the opportunity to vote, regardless of race or previous servitude. I understand that women were upset at being left out of the mix.

Will the story be the same this year? Are we willing to elect an African-American man before we are willing to elect a woman?

It is probably unfair to reduce the complexity of each candidates positions down to race vs. sex, but it does cause me to wonder how far we have grown as a culture since 1870....
