Wow. Girls' Hockey Stands Tall

This is our outstanding goalie, Taylor being a brick wall.

A huge "hat-tip" to the Breck Girls' Hockey team for their double-overtime victory over a talented South Saint Paul team.  This is our first Minnesota State  title in Class A girls' hockey.

Milica played 69 minutes - the whole game.  What an unbelievable display of leadership and guts.  Wow!

Congratulations to Leah, Alex, and the whole team on a job very well done.  It was a great ride and a job very well done.

Getting off on a technicality does not make you "innocent".  If the guy mails your sample when he was supposed to, you are out of baseball. 

How about quit yapping about your "innocence" and play clean.

Well Done, Peter, Frank and Gail...

This week there was a "Good-bye" service for a long time faculty member, Peter Clark, who died on January 21 from pulmonary fibrosis.  Through a series of loving stories we learned about Peter's taking part of the last year to travel from Minnesota down Texas to visit a brother, and the over to California to see more friends and relatives, and finally up to Oregon to visit former colleagues and more relatives, and finally back home. 

I walked away impressed by the generosity of spirit these stories reflected and wondering if ever anyone would ever have such kind things to say about me....Perhaps something to work on there.

Unfortunately, I had to leave early to get to Colonial Fair, and I gather one of the stories told was about the secret of eating peaches.

What I loved most about this service was that it reflected the man.  A list of favorite songs and CD's, Peter Ost. playing mandolin...other worldly...Very touching.

Peter, thank you for that final gift.  I shall aspire to use my time here more wisely.

Luke LeBlanc and Little Diamonds...

Yesterday was one of those days where I can barely stay awake on the ride home from school.  Fortunately, I rested and returned to watch Nyasia Arradondo and The Burghes followed by Luke LeBlanc (Little Diamonds & Friends).  


Nyasia had some fine moments in their 30 minute set, but she needs to be more consistent with her vocals through every song.  The highlight of this group was violinist, Gaia Ramsdell who playing added depth and a unique tone to an otherwise fairly traditional high school band.

The real fun began when Little Diamonds began setting up.  First, the group seemed to be a collection of men and women who had AARP cards, or were very close to that age.  I had not expected this and so I found great humor in this, especially when I looked at the sax player who was very grey and thin.  The group opened with a couple of Bob Dylan numbers and then transitioned into some Rolling Stone covers before Luke did several of his songs.  The group reassembled at the end for a final three songs, all of which were well done.

Part of the charm of the evening was seeing how focused the ten-piece band was in playing with Luke.  I would not have suspected that a group of older musicians who have been that excited about playing with a junior in high school, but I was wrong.  They were into it.  From the periodic sax solos of "Bruno" to the backup singers who swayed to the rhythm of each song - they were into it.


Great fun.

Ski Day

Ski Day was today and we had great weather.  No snow or sun, but mid 30°'s and not much wind.  I skied with Alex Law, Tod "Sargent Schultz", and Eric Almond.  There were some interesting conversations on the chair lifts.

I skied on 170's and I managed to not tweak the knees too much.  I feel once while waiting in line, so that is not too bad.

Four kids were hurt today.  We had a concussion, a broken collar bone, and two arms that were banged up.  An unusual number of injuries for a Ski Day trip.  The poor kids who stayed late (which I normally do) got caught in traffic and they didn't make it back to school until late...

I was worried that after barking this fall about the dance teacher's knee injury (and prolonged recovery period) that I would be the next one up for getting nicked.  Happily I was able to avoid that.  I still need to be nicer....

Rambling....

1. Super Bowl....this is tough.  I was rooting for the Packers, then the 49ers and now it is down to the Patriots.  Just can't bring myself to root for the Giants.

2. Road my bike two days this week.  Glorious weather.

3. Today seems to be one of the those "shoe leather days" where I can't quite say the correct thing to anyone.  Sigh.


We shall see.
