PS22 Staten Island....You Rock.....

So this morning I knew that I wanted to write about my week with Adele and my students and then I found these videos from a public school on Staten Island.  Oh my God....they are so good.  I love music when many voices are singing, and these kids are SO into it.

To their credit, this is not a magnet school, just a school with a really fired up chorus teacher...

One of those Weeks....

One of the reasons why I love my job is that over the course of a year, you develop great friendships with a class of kids.  This week my first and second hour class introduced me to Adele.  Yesterday, between periods, I returned to my room to find the Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" booming on the stereo and fifteen kids were dancing and or singing....

It just doesn't get any better than this.

Harmon Killebrew is in hospice care and Twins fans everywhere are saddened by this news. 

Harmon came to the Twins in 1961 when the Washington Senators moved here.  He was our first big star, hitting 475 homeruns here (of his 573).

Here is the Harmon Killebrew I have know for the last 28 years.

Too Long at the Fair

1. Goodness...I have missed this space.

2. Today is my last day of class at the U - so I now have time to think and write.

3.  May 1st - The Weather - Snow showers while at the coffee shop.  38° and windy while I was working at the bike shop.  Are you kidding me?

4. Last night my email account lit up with a note that the president was going to address the nation at 10:30 EDT.   Not good.  All I could think of was that he was going to pull an LBJ and announce that he wasn't running for a second term.

I turned to CNN and they announced that Osama Bin Laden was dead.  Slowly more and more pieces of the puzzle came out.  Bin Laden had been killed by Americans. 


This morning I went to the front door to see this mornings paper.  I have enclosed a picture below.  Really?  That is how we present this news.

I am happy that a man that hated my country is gone, but I don't think banner headlines as big as Dallas serve us well.  Nor do I thinking dancing outside the White House is a good move either.  When a war is over, that is dance-in-the-street time.  The fact we flew helicoptes into another country and assassinated someone doesn't quite meet that same standard for me.

Another thought.  So, our man with the kidney disease turns out not to be living in a cave, but shacked up in a million dollar mansion, 38 miles outside the capital of Pakistan.  That is all you really need to know about the Pakistani "intelligence" service.  They are so bent it is not funny. 

I understand analysts found him because this huge house had no phone or Internet service.  Nice job on the analyst front.

I Had No Idea.....

Last Friday, March 11, Japan was hit with a massive earthquake and following tsunami.  Each day the news from Japan seems to be more difficult and hard to comprehend.

This morning I gathered the paper and this headline jolted me.  Oh my God - I can even begin to calculate the enormity of that loss.  Just as my brain was beginning to wrap around the headline I started to examine the picture.  Here a mother and father have found their daughter who was out in a driver-training car when the quake hit.  I would describe the photo in more detail, but it is really too upsetting.  I don't have the tools to fathom this kind of loss.

A brickbat to the layout editor who put the "Laugh" headline about some yoga program above the picture and headline about the quake.  Most inappropriate.

Here is a scary video from someone who was way too close to the events.  I don't know how they survived and got this footage.  Scary.

Needless to say, my thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan.

Breck Takes Third

Our girls hockey team defeated the Evelth Golden Bears,6-4, to earn third place in the Minnesota One-A hockey tournament.

Libya...

It is scary to sit here and watch tweets from Libya of mercenary Italian pilots bombing Libyan protesters.  God help those people.

May someone in the military please set up and end the madness...
